So Close

The last installment in the Medway 5k series was to be the track at Gillingham, but due to bad weather the event at Deangate had to be postponed. The rearranged race took place on the 28th July.

As this event was not as popular as the track race there were less people running. The usual suspects were there, including Chris, a team mate who is currently injured. This also meant, I had more chance of finishing higher.

The race started and after a few hundred metres I was in fourth, about ten metres behind Michael. Expecting someone to come past me I decided I’d try to hang on to third’s tail. I did for the whole race. I got close a few times but each time he kept pulling away. In my mind this was probably my only chance to get on the podium, with Chris injured and less people running because it was postponed, this was my chance. With about 500m to go I tried one last time. I got close but there was just too much of a gap. In the end we were separated by just 4 seconds.

At the end I congratulated Michael and was quite pleased with 4th place, but deep down I was gutted….again.
